How to compare Layer 2s for DeFi across fees, protocol maturity, security model, and ecosystem depth rather than chasing a single 'best' answer.

There is no single "best" Layer 2 for DeFi — the right choice depends on what you're optimizing for, whether that's the lowest fees, the deepest and most battle-tested protocol ecosystem, the fastest withdrawal times, or the strongest cryptographic security model, and different L2s trade these off differently.

The dimensions that actually matter

Rather than ranking L2s by a single number, it's more useful to compare them across the factors that actually affect your experience and risk:
